Artist's Comments

EDIT: Okay, I just need to say this...I never get annoyed with criticism (I beg for the harshest, actually :XD: ) But with the neck...It's supposed to be like that, and that is actually my most favorite part of the drawing. I think it makes her look graceful and elegant, and if it was shorter or squatter...well, that wouldn't look as regal, would it? Also, it kind of enforces the whole 'inhumanly beautiful, unrealistically enchanting' theme going on, so...If you think the neck is too long, I already know :) But I like it, so that's the one thing I will not change, ever, in one of my drawings. :)

"GAAARGH, I HAVE A BIG MOUTH AND I WILL EAT YOU ALL! HRRRRRMM...." That's what I think of when I see this ;)

Someone asked me to draw this picture of her...but I forgot who it was :P I came up with the whole "Porcelain" concept and everything, though.

The reason is says Porcelain and the title is that is cause I think Emmy looks almost inhuman in the reference...Like, the skin tones are so smooth and she looks so unnaturally beautiful and...perfect! It kind of has a cold feeling to it also, like lifeless.

The only thing I could think of that I feel the same about are dolls. And porcelain dolls are what I thought of. Like, you know those really antique ones?

:iconcrymson-godess-13: wrote a poem for this. It describes my opinion on the drawing perfectly! Thank you, Lex!

Porcelain
-----------
Pale as alabaster moonlight.
Soft as silk and velvet entwined.
Hard as a villain's eyes,
And cold as his soul.
An unearthly beauty,
Simple and elegant.
Alien in its radience and sophistication.
A child's innocence, embodied
In the pale
Soft,
Hard,
Cold,
Unearthly,
Beautiful,
Simple,
Elegant,
Alien...
Porcelain.

My reference [link] The only fault I can point out with my drawing is that the chin should be more flat; not going downward so much. Also, the eyes are pointing in different directions. What mistakes can YOU find?

EDIT: Like I've said (to many people by now...) this is going into the County Fair in two days time, and after that will go to the State. Thanks to all your comments and crits, I know I'm going to get a big 'ol ribbon on this! ;)

EDIT (8/3/07): THIS WON GRAND RESERVE CHAMPION! At the County Fair! I just found out today! I am soooo happy! I've never gotten one of those big, fancy ribbons before, but now I did! I want to thank you all soo much for all your helpful comments!

Many of the high realism drawings I see on DeviantART are extremely sterile - all technique, no feeling.
This one has a gentle spark of personality and warmth.

Great job capturing her likeness. I've seen a couple drawings of her and this is one of the best.

this is beautiful
my only problem with it is that the eyes don't seem like they're looking at the same spot
otherwise, it is truly extraordinary

Woww, its gorgeous : D

The only two small things I can find are: one eye seems to be looking at a different place, and theres one eyelash on her left eye that looks a tad off pointing to the right so much.

Great job, it looks amazing.

All things come to an end. But its not the end that counts, its how we get there.
