Part of the second series of oil paintings for my Painting class. I...really don't know how I feel about this one. But the professor had told me that I am too focused on tight, 'accurate' rendering and that I need to relax and loosen up. Which is expected from the Fine Arts department, which has a completely different dynamic from the Illustration department. I'm kind of floating in between the both of them - while my major is in Fine Arts, I have more of an 'illustration' based background. So yeah, I'm trying to move away from what I apparently do to an overabundance, and relax. So here's a painfully oversimplistic painting leaning upon generic symbols Yeah, not too happy with it, I think I could have found a much better route.

The series, especially this one, accidentally got more and more about my heritage and cultural identity (Japanese American). Complete accident, I swear. I usually really try to avoid co9vering that in my art because it just becomes a mess. I don't know how I stand or what I think when it comes to all that nonsense, so I almost always come out with something that I can't even stand behind.
